How did you become a scrapbooker or memory-keeper? I wanted a pretty way to display my wedding pictures. By the time I finished my wedding album, my daughter was born and I wanted a way to document her life… and I haven’t stopped since!

How would you describe your scrapbooking style? A mix of modern & graphic, clean & simple and minimalistic. Lots of journaling.

When do you scrapbook? How much time do you spend on this activity during a typical week? While my daughters nap and at night after they’ve gone to bed. I spend probably around 25-30 hours a week scrapbooking or doing something scrapbook-related.

What is your favorite way to capture the journaling part of your scrapbooking? I mostly journal as if I’m telling a story about the person. Sometimes I’ll do it in letter format (using “you”), sometimes in an interview format, sometimes using bullets/lists and sometimes using song lyrics!

What story from the past do you most wish had been documented so you and/or your family could enjoy it now? I really wish that my grandparents and parents documented their stories growing up. Times change so quickly and I’m so intrigued by the past.

What is your favorite source of scrapbooking or design inspiration? I love online galleries because there are so many different styles showcased.

What is your favorite part of scrapbooking/memory-keeping? Knowing that my kids will be able to look back on their life and be able to see the little things that make up our every day. Most people remember holiday celebrations or big events, not many people remember that they refused to eat anything without dipping it in ranch dressing when they were 3 years old.

What do you find the most challenging about scrapbooking/memory-keeping? Scrapbooking big events. I feel too much pressure to have it be perfect, and I really just don’t enjoy it.

How has your scrapbooking changed since you first started? (or has it?) Yes! I knew what style I wanted to have but I found it too difficult to do using paper. When I switched to digital I was able to easily create pages in my signature style. Plus, I find it easier to journal now.

Please share one piece of advice on how to capture everyday real life memories for others new to scrapbooking and/or memory-keeping… Keep notes! Write it on paper, in a notes app on your phone, in a word document… wherever you’ll be able to easily find it later. Take 5 minutes at the end of every day, think “what do I want to remember about today?” and write it down. Don’t worry if it’s not all sunshine and rainbows – real life isn’t. Sometimes writing down a horrible day can help you get over it and move on with a fresh perspective.
