Capturing a New Approach to Spending

Time Capsule: Weekly Challenge #41… Extended

When I first saw this challenge, I had to really think about what I wanted to do. For me and our family, shopping has changed dramatically in the last ten years. We never had “plenty” of money, but we always got by and didn’t have to scrimp. Well, my husband is self-employed in the building industry and the changing economy has really hit us. So I thought that I would use this as my topic. I didn’t do a sketch first, I just looked for some images of some items that we use every day, or at least often. I just used these photos for the page. I was a little stumped at first, but then once I thought of this idea, the page itself was pretty easy.

Before, when shopping for anything… groceries, clothes or even things for the house, I always just got what I wanted, within reason. Didn’t really look that closely at the price. I always had my hair colored, bought clothes at the regular retail stores, went out to eat often and just enjoyed a casual lifestyle. But now, in the last three or four years we have cut corners at every spot we can think of! We now use coupons for groceries, for eating out, and even for buying clothes! I thought it would be neat to document this on my page with a few “before” and “after” images. I used my laundry detergent as an example, along with my hair salon and now home color treatment!

How have things changed for you and your shopping habits? Do you have a certain routine that you follow for anything? Your grocery shopping, kids clothes? Any tips to share with other scrappers? Think of documenting these things on a page. There are things that you may not remember later, but that are a daily part of our lives right now! Don’t just scrap your special occasions, make sure that you have a way for your children and grandchildren to look back at your everyday lives and activities!
