A closer look at the journaling…

“I’m not a person who likes a lot of changes in my life. I like a routine, familiarity… jeans and an old favorite t-shirt. So with costs of everything going up our lives have changed in all sorts of ways. From the way we eat, the places we go, how we dress, even personal hygiene products!!! We don’t eat out very much anymore. We used to frequently go to Longhorn Steakhouse, now when we do go out, we go to O’Charleys. I used to get my hair colored and cut at the salon, now I cut it myself and use hair color from the store. We clip coupons for groceries and go to our department store for clothes when they have sales with extra cash back! Even my craft shopping has changed, I now only buy with a coupon, and make sure it’s something that I really need. Prices keep going up, the price of living is outrageous. But the money coming in is less. This is changing the way we live in a dramatic way, and it’s not for the better! I hope things turn around very soon, for our family and the millions of others out there too.”

* Do you plan your purchases around sales? The Sunday paper? Senior discount day?
* Are you a bargain hunter?
* Which is more important to you* price or quality? Does this vary, depending on the item?
* Do you shop at multiple locations because of price considerations?
* How much of your budget is spent on food? Household? Necessities? Extras/non-essentials?
* Do you stock up when prices are good?

Documenting this part of your life now may help others…

* Become aware of differences in costs and how that may or may not influence your choices, decisions and priorities.
* Better understand how information is delivered and consumers are influenced in this era.

Other ideas

*  Let the design and layout of the ad itself be the inspiration for a scrapbook page.
*  Create a coupon book-style mini album. Topic possibilities: Experiences I plan to have, places I plan to visit, goals I hope to achieve.
* Attach a price/value to various qualities, experiences, goals, decisions or other facets of your life.
*  Adopt a slogan or ad jingle as the layout title and focus.
