A closer look at the journaling…

“Don’t get me wrong, I would do anything for my family. Well I do already!! I am mum to two beautiful children, which goes hand in hand with daily chores – washing, cleaning, ironing, driving them to here & there, shopping (not for fun!). There are other parts too, like having to be the one who gets up in the middle of the night when they dream and need comforting. I am the one who looks after them when they are sick. I am the one who reads to them at night and bathes them. I cook for them – and get complaints about the food! I am there through their tantrums I am the one who administers all the medicine when they are sick and hear their cries of pain.  I am the one who talks to the teacher and sees their work.  But I am a mother and I appreciate that’s what mums do. Comes with the job. But sometimes I need time for me. I need time to think adult and be adult and act adult! I am lucky to get some evenings to myself. It’s a fine balance I know. But it’s nice to have.”

Get those creative juices flowing…

* Is your life currently “balanced” in terms of work and play, self and others, stress & relaxation?
* How do you spend the free time you have?
* What efforts have you made to find more balance in your life?
* Do you feel in control of your current life?
* What percentage of your day is spent on others versus on yourself and your own needs & interests?
* Do you protect personal time? Schedule it?
* How do you feel about saying “no” to requests for your time and resources?
* What would help you find more balance in life?
* If you have achieved a balanced life, what helped you get there? How do you maintain that balance?
* What does or would “balance” look like for you?

Documenting this part of your life now may help others…

* Learn now to better balance their own life via your example.
* Become more in tune with your strengths and weaknesses.

Other ideas

* If you scrap mostly about your children or family life, start an All About Me album and spend some time focusing on yourself.
* Write a letter to your younger self (or your children) with advice concerning how to lead a balanced life.
