Scrapping the Busy-Ness of Life

Time Capsule: Weekly Challenge #37… Extended

A challenge close to my heart as this is something I struggle with on a daily basis – how to keep up with it all! I did a bit of brainstorming for this one thinking about all of my daily challenges and trying to narrow it down into a one-page design. Believe me; I could have a whole album dedicated to this topic!

CalendarI finally narrowed it down to the busy-ness of our family schedule, especially the kids and their activities. I thought of two ideas, first to photograph the equipment/uniforms for their activities, and second, to photograph the calendar we keep in order to keep track of everything. In the end, I decided to combine both ideas, alternating types of photos down the page.

The most difficult part of this challenge was narrowing down my ideas and the photos I wanted to include. Sometimes, I feel like I struggle to come up with even one idea for a layout or challenge and other times (like this!) I have way too many ideas and find it difficult to reduce it to a manageable size.

Most of the time spent on this layout was thinking about how to narrow it down… the actual layout itself came together fairly easily. I carry around little notebooks and pads of paper in my purse and I have them lying all over the house so that anytime I want to sketch or brainstorm a layout I have somewhere to write down my ideas. It’s a great way for me to stretch my scrapbooking time into those times where I’m not in front of the computer like when I’m the waiting room at the doctor’s office or in the car line waiting to pick up the kids from school.

Even after coming up with the idea of incorporating pictures of the calendar with photos of their activities, I couldn’t reasonably add photos of each child doing each activity. For example, even though they’re all in Scouts, they’re all in different troops so I only have individual photos. When you add up all of the individual photos from each child for each activity, you get way too many photos! So after much thought, I decided to take new photos just for the challenge layout. I combined their uniforms and balls from their various activities and photographed them together. Now instead of three photos for Scouting, I had one photo that represented all three kids.

I scrapbook as a tool to document our lives and the stories and little details I wouldn’t otherwise remember and because I enjoy the creative process. You can view my main gallery at … ame=azrood.
