My Handwriting ~ Digital Layout by Melissa Shanhun

My Handwriting ~ Digital Layout by Melissa Shanhun

A closer look at the journaling…

“A couple of years ago I decided to make my own font from my handwriting. Since I created it I now spend a lot less time trying to fiddle with fonts for my layouts and I use it on thank you notes, etc. Lots of people comment on it, since they see my handwriting and recognise it. * Adding dots to my printing, for a cute effect thanks to Art Attack. * Being a lefty, writing was always a messy undertaking. Ink all up my arm, cramps from hours of writing in exams. * Grandma Kerr once commented that my numerals were the messiest she’d ever seen! * Sitting for hours trying to write with my calligraphy pen without smudging it. I received it as a gift from Misty-Jane McGinley from 3 Claredon Court for my 10th birthday. Writing the sentiment for almost every card, cheque, etc. that left the house for many years after this just to practise! * I spent HOURS during my school holidays as a child practising my calligraphy and even would beg to fill out forms/write cheques for Mum and Dad to practise. * Flipping the tails of my Y’s the opposite way – thanks to Nana Okely.”

Get those creative juices flowing…

* How often do you write something by hand instead of using a computer or keyboard?
*  Do you like your handwriting?
*  Has your handwriting changed over time?
*  Do you think it is important for today’s children to learn and practice penmanship?
*  Do you prefer printing? Cursive? All caps? A combination?
*  What do you think your handwriting says about you?
*  If you could make your handwriting look like any font, which would it be?

Documenting this part of your life now may help others…

* Enjoy a sample of your handwriting from a time period in which such a thing is far less common to find than in pre-digital times.
* Glimpse a bit of your personality and style as evidenced in your handwriting.

Other ideas

*  Collect samples of your handwriting from childhood though the present and display them together in a layout, mini album or other project.
*  If you prefer typing your journaling on your scrapbook pages, consider doing so with a font created from your own handwriting.
