Stacey AshbyPlease tell us a little about yourself, your family, your background…  I am a happily married mom to four kiddos and two recently adopted cats!  I am a stay-at-home mom and also work (very) part-time for a local real estate office.  I have been digital scrapbooking for going on four years now and love the creative outlet it gives me.  I love to bake and can make a mean chocolate chip cookie!

How did you become a scrapbooker or memory-keeper? I started making signatures on a forum I belonged to and came across digital scrapbooking.  I decided to actually use the kits for what they were meant for and never looked back!

How would you describe your scrapbooking style? Mostly like traditional (paper) scrapbooking, with lots of clustering and layering.

When do you scrapbook? How much time do you spend on this activity during a typical week? Usually after the kids are in bed and during naps if I can squeeze it in!  I would say around 5-7 hours.

What is your favorite way to capture the journaling part of your scrapbooking? I mostly journal like I am telling the story to the person the page is about.  I want them to know the memory exactly how I remember it, so they can see how special it was.  I wish I could have the stories behind some of my older family pictures, and I want to make sure my family will be able to share the photos and stories for future generations.

What story from the past do you most wish had been documented so you and/or your family could enjoy it now? There are many stories about me specifically that I wish were documented more than just pictures.

What is your favorite source of scrapbooking or design inspiration? I love to browse galleries and use templates!

What is your favorite part of scrapbooking/memory-keeping? The reaction from my family when they look through the books!  I love when my children get excited seeing their pictures and the giggles when they read a funny story about them!  It is by far the best feeling in the world!

What do you find the most challenging about scrapbooking/memory-keeping? Creating the initial page design.  If I am not using a template (which I tend to change too!) I can sit there forever moving everything around over and over trying to make it “perfect.”

How has your scrapbooking changed since you first started? (or has it?) I journal much more!  I always thought I “didn’t know how” to journal well. I didn’t want it to sound funny so I never bothered.  I  look back on older books that I made and wish I would have added some sort of journaling to the pages.

Please share one piece of advice on how to capture everyday real life memories for others new to scrapbooking and/or memory-keeping… Take lots of photos and remember that every moment is important to capture.  If you know that you won’t have time right away to scrap a funny conversation with your toddler, write it down.  Scrap for you and your family, because that is all that really matters!
