Q & A with Jen D

I’m excited to share our first Creative Team Member interview today, featuring the amazing Jen D. Not only is this lady an extremely talented scrapper (and the ONLY scrapbooker I know that is actually “caught up,” at least most of the time!) but she is also a very friendly, generous & encouraging friend who I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know much better over the past several months.

Follow along and you’ll soon see what I mean …

Please tell us a little about yourself … your family, your pets,  your background I am a SAHM of three amazing kiddos and a wonderful husband.  We have three yorkies, a tortoise and a fish.  I went to college to be an elementary teacher but decided when I had kids I didn’t want to be away from them and decided it was my kids I wanted to be around not other people’s.  I loved photography in college and wish I would have changed my major when I had those first thoughts… but I was scared and too close to finishing.  Hindsight is 20/20.  So, I have a degree I don’t use… but a love for photography that has given me a new career path.  It is also a career that I dictate and it allows me to stay home.  It also fuels my huge passion for scrapbooking because I am never without a photo… even when my kid is in the emergency room 😉

How long have you been a scrapbooker & how did you first get started? I have “scrapbooked” since I was a kid… but back then it was a glue stick, a notebook pad, some construction paper and magazine clippings.  I went to my very first Creative Memories party when I was 18 and I have been hooked ever since.  I found digital scrapbooking when I was up late nursing my youngest daughter… there was a product on HSN.  I bought it and was unhappy with the limited results… I Googled digital scrapbooking and the rest is history!

How has your scrapbooking changed since that timeMy desire for chronological scrapbooking hasn’t changed and the reason I scrapbook has never changed but my style is NIGHT and DAY!  =)

What fills your time when you are NOT scrapbooking? My God, my family, photography and I love to read when I get the chance.

How do you choose what (photos, stories, events, etc.) to include in your scrapbooks? Because I am a chronological scrapper and I don’t like to miss a beat… just about everything goes in.  I will pick the best photos but I try to include everything from event scrapping to everyday.  I think I made over 300 pages so far this year, if that tells you anything… =)

What types of materials do you use when you scrapbook? I am 100% digital… but I do print them online and put them in D-ring albums with page protectors.  My kids love to go through their books and I need something to protect my hard work!

Where do you find inspiration for your pages I love to scan galleries online and I like to read scrapbooking magazines.  I think mostly it is the pictures.  The emotional connection I have with them tells my story.

Who are your scrapbooking role models? I have many people that I draw inspiration from.  I don’t know that I have anybody that I really try to pattern after.

What is something your scrapbooking friends probably don’t know about youHmmmm… they read my journaling so probably not much.  I am an open book for the most part. If they have a question, I would be happy to answer it!

What is on your scrapbooking “wish list”My wish list is always for product that produces “paper quality” scrapbook pages.  I was a paper scrapper for 10 years so I like mine to look as if they were made with actual paper.  So, when I see new product in the scrapbook magazines, I cross my fingers that they make their way into my digital world.

What do you hope future viewers of your scrapbooks will gain from your pagesI hope they see the love I had for my family. I hope my kids are able to go back and relive their childhood flipping through the pages.  Mostly I want them as time capsules for when Tony and I are old and gray swinging on our front porch.  I want to remember what a wonderfully blessed life we lived and I don’t want to forget a single minute.

What is your best tip for fellow scrapbookers Scrapbook with your heart.  Don’t focus on the load of pictures that sits in front of you… just take it day by day.  Whatever you finish will be treasured!

Anything else you’d like to add? Hmmmmm… I am usually quite the talker but can’t think of anything else.  As I said before my journaling is pretty extensive and I don’t think I leave a drop to the imagination! =)
