It is human nature to get caught up in the stress of our daily lives and to focus on the negative… especially when we’ve had a long winter and are anxious for the renewal of spring.
What better time than to take a moment and reflect on the beauty in our lives?
What things bring us joy and a smile to our face? Are you one of the lucky who can instantly think of a 100 things and get overwhelmed with what would make your top 10 list? Or are you down in the dumps and totally stumped on even pondering the topic?
Well, that’s why I’m here… to give a little inspiration, a little focus, and maybe a chuckle.
We can go about our list in different ways. We can pick an aspect of our lives and focus on what brings us joy in that area.
Here are some ideas…
- job or workplace
Or we can compile a list of one thing from each of several categories. Some examples are:
- favourite movies
- tv shows
Or we can even just make a quick list with the first ten things that pop into your head. You might be surprised with what you find. To get your started, let me try. Ok, count with me, 1, 2, 3….
- smelling the air on a warm day
- the twinkle in my husband’s eye
- my husband’s corny puns
- children holding hands
- when I look in a mirror on a rare but wonderful good-hair-day
- looking at a finished scrapbook layout that visually “works”
- listening to my daughter make up songs
- watching my son eat
- sinking into a hot bath
There I did it, and so can you!!!
If you want to get really wild, you could even do a comparison layout of 10 things that make you smile now and 10 things you remember that used to make you smile. How are those lists different?
Or if you really are feeling low, maybe a therapeutic scrapbook session focusing on your worries and sadness is what you need. So, go ahead, write 10 things that make you sad, angry, worried or however you would describe what it is you are feeling.
