Please tell us a little about yourself … your family, your background, pets, hobbies, etc… My name is Crystal and I am just a regular SAHM. I married my HS sweetheart right after I graduated and it’s been 8 years now this past November. We have three little ones. Two boys, Gabriel (6) and Ezra (4) and a girl Stella (2). I have always lived in this same area and our families are all still here so it’s cozy…though a bit cold at the moment! We have zero pets cause I am a stickler and don’t want the burden of them quite yet, though I see a cat in the future cause the kiddos desperately want one! As for hobbies, I don’t really have tons of time for much but I love a good book more than anything. I could read all the time!! It keeps me up way too late at times. I also home school Gabe at the moment which takes a bit of time but we like it!

Scrapbook Layout by Crystal Livesay

Are you a digital, paper or hybrid scrapper/designer? What do you like most about this method? I am an almost 100% digital scrapper, but I have been trying a bit of hybrid and paper recently for the first time ever. I love the ease of digital and the immediate shopping possibilities! If I need a specific alpha I can just go get it! For paper and hybrid I quite enjoy feeling like I am being more productive. It’s nice to get your hands on something for once I think!

How long have you been a designer & how did you first get started? I have been designing templates for over a year now. It started on a whim actually. I made a template to post on my blog and people really liked it! I got a store offer and that’s how it began!

Is scrapbook product design your full-time job? If not, what else do you do? Well I consider it a part-time job and being the SAHM my full-time one but this is the only one that pays in actual money and not hugs and kisses!

What software & platform do you use in your design work? Do you use any other special tools? I use an HP desktop PC and it runs on Windows Vista. I mostly use Photoshop Elements 7 for the designing and scrapping. I do have a tablet and anything that comes with doodley little things I make myself with that.

Has your design style changed over time? What has influenced this? I feel like my template designing has taken a change for a couple of reasons. I feel like the market is oversaturated at the moment so I have tried to change my style a bit to be more unique like it used to be. Also, I have really gotten into being able to help people tell their stories with prompts and other things to inspire them in capturing their everyday.

Come back tomorrow to read the second half of Crystal’s Q&A. Until then, here’s the brand new template kit you’ve all been waiting for … the full version of “Book of Me • Year in Review” created especially for Log Your Memory fans!

Crystal is one of the sweetest people I’ve met in the digital community. Her templates are fantastic – anything to help scrap a little bit like her is amazing! My daughter celebrates her 2nd birthday on Wednesday and we had her party this weekend. That’s one occasion I won’t miss capturing!

  2. Oh, I love Crystal! I agree with Jennifer – she is so sweet! I’m so glad to get to know a little more about her here! We had to make a sad trip out to the east coast last week for a funeral, but it was the first time my kids remember being there, so there is a lot that I want to be sure to scrap and journal about! Thank you for the chance!

  3. Laser says:

Love Crystal’s templates and would love to win this set. With lots of family around this Christmas there will be so many pages to scrap.

  4. Patsy says:

One story I’ll share is our two “white” Christmases in early December — both in early December and in different parts of the country. Icy streets, hazardous driving conditions, hours in traffic and more hours with two of my family at the hospital emergency room are not our usual Christmas occurrences!

One story I’d really like to have in my pages is a not so nice layout. I have a hard time scrapping my not so nice feelings, and I think journaling would be a good way to express those feelings.

  8. Kate says:

Can’t wait to read more!! I want to capture the events around my son’s 8th b-day. It included an incident and surgery. Poor kid.

I was always too scared to use templates cos I didn’t understand them. I’ve just downloaded a trial of PSE and tried using my first template …. it’s like a whole new world has opened! I totally admired Crystal’s templates and the wonderful CT layouts showing them off and would so love the chance to try them out. I never got around to doing a first year book for my daughter but these templates would give me a real incentive to get it done. Thanks heaps for the chance

  12. I really would like to finish capturing the story of our second son’s too-early birth and stay in the NICU this summer. It was a stressful, crazy time but had a wonderfully happy ending, since he is now healthy with no lasting effects, and I want to capture the myriad of emotions from that period!

One story I really need to capture from this year is my oldest DD starting preschool and all her fun experiences she has had so far this year. She absolutely loves going, and I’m sure in time that will wear off and I don’t want to forget it!
