Summer Project 2010: Week #4

My summer project continues with step #4 …

Week #4: Creating a list of actual layouts to be scrapped.

If it seems this project is moving at a snail’s pace, you’re right. But the difference between this year and last year is at least it is moving! I have to keep reminding myself of this when I feel like I “should” be doing more, which is every time I sit down to start working on my weekend update. By breaking this into tiny little steps that only take an hour or two to complete (or less), I’m finding that at least I am making some progress during an otherwise crazy summer schedule.

This week was definitely one of baby steps … after previously sorting photos & memorabilia, making some basic decisions about the overall album and ordering materials, this week my sole task was to come up with a list of stories/topics to actually scrapbook, as opposed to the items which will simply be included in the album “as-is” without a full-fledged layout to go along with them.

For this first section in the album – Karstin’s kindergarten year – my list of layouts was pretty easy to put together, largely because that first year was so long ago (almost a decade ago!) that I simply don’t recall that many stories to scrap … exactly why I want to get organized and have a process in place so the same thing doesn’t happen with my two youngest students-to-be.

In a nutshell, the layouts I plan to create include:

  • An introductory page, including the grade, year, teacher’s name, school, etc. This is a page I will repeat for every year with the updated information.
  • A first day of school page, including several photos and a little bit about how that first day was really just a couple hours long and moms attended too to help ease the transition.
  • A page about the spring school program, including photos and the note sent home a few weeks prior with the line Karstin was to recite during the performance.

That’s about it! The rest of the items will either be scanned, reduced in size and printed as photos or included as-is in pocket pages or full-size transparent sleeves.

Next week: Scanning & photo editing.
