A Lifetime of Summer Memories

With the task of choosing our Layout of the Week for Logbook Weekly Challenge #23, I went back and forth and back and forth between a couple of the layouts this week, and I kept coming back to this page by sarahbhb.

It’s simple, focuses on the beautiful photo and has so much journaling, telling us all the things she remembers from the summer season from the time she was a kid to some memories she has now with her own daughter. Such a treasure trove of tidbits!

"Summer Time" by sarahbhb

There are so many different summer memories from different parts of my life. I can remember chasing fireflies and helping crank the ice cream machine as a young child. As I got older those memories were traded in for scout camping trips and backyard softball games. When I became a teenager summer time became reading time. I would find a spot in front of a fan, grab a glass of iced tea and spend hours between the pages of a book.

When I started college summer became all about more classes to try to graduate as soon as I possibly could. Once I graduated and moved to Delaware summer became about going to the beach. Growing up in Arkansas this was new and exciting for me. I loved walking along the beach and strolling down the boardwalk (not to mention the pizza and fries).

Of course after I became a mom summer totally changed for me. It became about trips to the park, blowing bubbles for my daughter to pop, then as she grew older popping bubbles my daughter blew for me. Summer means playing games like bocce and croquet with my family, Devin grilling the evening’s meal and helping my daughter participate in every summer reading program that she can find. Summer means family camping trips, more school field trips and hopefully a trip to one of the Lake Michigan beaches this year. I can’t wait to see what future summers have in store for me!
